Brazil’s EU poultry return remains a regulatory process, not an immediate supply release

Brazil has completed an EU sanitary audit focused on poultry meat and honey, according to a 4 September statement by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The European mission began on 24 August and included visits to production establishments and official bodies. Brazil says that the official controls and procedures examined were considered satisfactory. The result does not yet amount to automatic market reopening. The ministry itself describes it as progress toward Brazil’s re-inclusion on the list of countries authorised to supply poultry meat and honey to the EU. Since the EU decision of 12 May 2026, Brazil has continued technical and political discussions with EU authorities and submitted documentation covering several animal-product supply chains. For the European market, the significance lies in the regulatory sequence, not in a volume already released for trade. A favourable audit verifies how the official system operates in the field; market access then requires a formal EU decision and the relevant inclusion in the applicable lists. Until then, buyers and marketers should not interpret the announcement as immediate availability of Brazilian product. For companies in the poultry chain, the case highlights the importance of verifiable systems over simple export-capacity claims. Eligibility depends on veterinary controls, traceability, certification and competent-authority assessment, as well as the animal-health situation. If the process is completed, it could broaden sourcing options. Purchasing decisions, however, still need to rest on the current authorisation, approved establishment and certificate conditions—not on the political expectation of a future re-inclusion.
