Food safety reform makes verifiable process control a competitive requirement

The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has approved the design of the next phase of its Future of Food Regulation programme. Published on 16 September, the decision does not yet change specific obligations for businesses; it opens a system-design process. Its direction nevertheless matters to butchers, meat processors and meat retailers: the agency intends to retain local expertise for most businesses while complementing it with national scrutiny of a small number of very large operators.
