Disease compensation confirms that movement restrictions are a meat-chain cost factor
The European Commission has agreed to mobilise €73 million from the agricultural reserve to compensate Italian farms affected by avian influenza and African swine fever. Of that amount, €61 million is for poultry and egg producers affected between September 2022 and March 2025; €12.5 million is for pig producers affected by measures linked to ASF outbreaks between November 2024 and April 2025. Payments must reach beneficiaries by the end of May 2027.
