Brazil’s China cattle quote shows that export value begins with animal specification

Brazilian quotations on 2 October show that the price of cattle eligible for the Chinese market is not a single national benchmark. Scot Consultoria reported gross 30-day values between BRL 345 and BRL 372 per arroba, depending on state, for the category known as “Boi China”. Paraná led the table at BRL 372, followed by São Paulo at BRL 370; Mato Grosso and Rondônia stood at BRL 345.

The category is not defined merely by its commercial destination. According to the source, it covers cattle with no more than four permanent incisors and under 30 months of age at slaughter, supported by an animal-transport document recording compatible age. In other words, a potential premium or discount rests on a verifiable animal and documentation specification, not simply on a later decision to export meat to China.

The regional spread shows that this specification intersects with local availability, slaughter schedules, cost structures and purchasing conditions. For processors, the reference price cannot replace lot assessment: documented age, health status, expected yield, weight, dentition and suitability for customer programmes still determine real value.
