The return of wild birds makes poultry biosecurity a chain-wide operating discipline

On 9 October, the UK government urged all bird keepers to review and strengthen their biosecurity. Defra linked the call to the seasonal return of migratory waterfowl such as ducks and geese, and to a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Scotland during the preceding week. The authority also states that the virus continues to circulate in wild birds and can spill over into poultry and other kept birds across Europe.
