Export credibility starts with audit-ready veterinary services

Brazil updated its Quali-SV audit page on 25 August. This is not a new product specification or a specific market opening. It is nevertheless a material reminder of how credibility for exported meat is built: through the demonstrable capability of official veterinary services. Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture places that work at the intersection of public health, animal health, environmental protection and domestic and international trade in animals and products of animal origin. The update stresses that veterinary services must be able to certify that traded products are fit for human consumption and do not pose risks to animals or the environment. The challenge is scale. The ministry itself points to Brazil’s regional diversity in environmental, production, economic, social and political conditions. Maintaining consistent service-quality standards across territories and supply chains therefore requires assessment systems, audit teams, tools, manuals, report templates and an audit calendar. These elements are linked in the update. For European buyers, processors and distributors, the lesson is not to judge meat only by country of origin. The decisive question is which official system supports certification and how its performance is overseen. Commercial quality remains a supply-chain task; sanitary reliability begins earlier, in public-sector capabilities that are rarely visible on a pack but shape market access, traceability and responsiveness.
