Carcase weight prevents a shortage signal from becoming a meat-volume forecast

British data from early October show that tight finished-animal availability and heavier carcases can operate at the same time. In the reported week, the average Great Britain all-prime deadweight cattle price rose by 8 pence to 628 pence per kilogram. Estimated prime-cattle throughput reached 29,500 head: marginally above the previous week, but 3,000 animals below the year-earlier level.
