A quiet avian-influenza summer is a preparation window, not an all-clear
The quarterly avian-influenza report from EFSA, ECDC and the European reference laboratory provides a risk baseline for the transition into a new season, not a forecast for every farm. Between 5 June and 28 August 2026, 110 highly pathogenic avian influenza detections were reported in Europe across twelve countries: two in poultry, five in captive birds and 103 in wild birds. The data extraction ended on 28 August, so the report does not replace current operational surveillance.
