Cologne becomes Europe’s plancha meeting point in September

The FIRE&FOOD BBQ WEEK will bring trade, hospitality, manufacturers, competition teams and barbecue consumers together at Motorworld Cologne from 5 to 7 September 2026. According to the organiser, the former trade day is becoming a three-day professional exhibition that remains open to consumers. The format therefore combines product presentation, education, competition and public experience in one place.

The sporting focus on 5 and 6 September is the first FIRE&FOOD Grillup, the WBQA European Plancha Championship. Up to 30 teams from across Europe will compete on planchas and fire plates. The task is more than showmanship: organisation, heat control, cooking, flavour, texture and presentation have to work together within a limited competition window.

The plancha and fire plate have developed from supplementary grill equipment into a market of their own. This matters to professionals because a closed hot surface offers different possibilities from a grate: delicate products, fat management, crust formation and parallel cooking can be controlled in another way. At the same time, the format is accessible to consumers. That combination explains why manufacturers, specialist retailers, hospitality businesses and competitions can all use the same platform.
