Nutrigenomics turns feeding into a measurable quality variable
A new review in *Veterinary and Animal Science* consolidates the state of nutrigenomics in livestock and poultry production. The term describes the systematic study of how nutrients, diets and bioactive components interact with gene activity and other molecular layers in animals. The authors assess studies published from 2015 to 2026 and cover genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and epigenetics.
US cattle policy links heifer retention with regional processing
On August 31, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced its “Ranchers First” initiative, a package intended to rebuild the U.S. cattle herd. Its announced elements include a Livestock Risk Protection endorsement for retaining breeding heifers, greater post-disaster flexibility on grassland conservation acreage, and new instruments for regional processing.
France’s producer-price data show why species must be calculated separately
On August 27, Insee reported that French producer prices for animals fell again in July 2026 compared with June, by 1.6%, following a 1.4% decline in the preceding month. Within that aggregate, however, movements differed sharply. Pig prices rose by 0.8% after a 0.6% fall, while poultry prices increased by 1.6% following a 0.1% rise.
Poultry research funding puts practical applicability ahead of product claims
On September 2, the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association opened preproposal submissions for its 2027 Spring Research Competition. Universities and research institutions may submit a one-page synopsis by November 2. Final funding decisions are scheduled for April 2027.
