Poultry operations are treating welfare and biosecurity as one management task

Poultry production increasingly connects issues that were long treated separately: flock health, biosecurity, handling, welfare, efficiency and staff training. That interdependence is the focus of the U.S. “Live Production, Welfare and Biosecurity” seminar, announced by USPOULTRY on August 24 and scheduled for September 23–24 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The event is aimed at production professionals and is intended to provide practical tools for changing challenges. In its announcement, the association brings disease and biosecurity threats, new technologies and evolving animal-welfare expectations into one framework. The message also matters beyond the United States: in poultry operations, a hygiene measure that cannot be applied consistently, or a welfare protocol that does not fit day-to-day work, quickly loses effectiveness.

The announcement does not yet provide a detailed technical programme or new research results. It therefore does not support specific operational recommendations. Its importance lies in the agenda. Professional competence is no longer defined solely by production performance or pathogen control; it requires linking disease prevention with facility design, daily animal care, training and documented decisions.
